The story behind the camera matters, too

For over a century, “Middlebrow” has been an insult, a weapon for punching down and a way to tell someone their tastes weren’t good enough or their motivations weren’t pure enough to understand great art.

But it wasn’t only about taste. The term, and the idea behind it, also justified an artistic economy built on starving artists, who didn’t need to be paid for their work because the art itself was supposed to be enough for them.

We see things differently.

We believe you shouldn’t have to choose between art that’s great and art that’s fun. And we know it’s possible not only to compensate the people involved in making that art fairly, but to build a successful, thriving business and artistic economy around their work.

And that’s what makes us proudly Middlebrow
